In those countries which use Daylight Savings systems, clocks are put forward when the scheme starts and are but back when it ends. A handy way to remember this is "Spring forward, fall back" In Spring, putting the clock forward an hour means that the sun 'appears' to rise and set an hour later than it would do otherwise. It was a device introduced - largely - for agricultural workers. As so few people work on the land nowadays I don't understand why it is maintained, other than custom and practice. it greatly disrupts international trade as some countries use it and others don't.
