There are millions of atheists and agnostics in the world, clearly they don't need religion. In practical terms, most governments run their countries in a secular way. So it is possible to envisage a world without religion running without much change from the current one.
No, I don't believe that anyone ever needed religion - some sacred codes or rules.
But I believe that all humanity has always needed a savior. God promised a savior to the first humans He created - Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:15 and then He followed through by sending Jesus who died for sins and then rose from the dead, defeating death.
That's the reason we all need a savior - to defeat death for us. Death is unnatural. Even YOU know that.
