I do think that one person's attitude can change how other people feel. One of my coworkers has a really bad attitude and it puts me into a bad mood every day.
People can change their own attitidudes much more easily than they can change some other person's attitude. While it is certainly not impossible to change a person's attitude, it can be remarkabley difficult. Most people have no intention of changing their attitude, and will resist any effort by others to make them change. So it's a risky endeavor.
One cannot change other people; one can only change themselves. Strengthen your inner self.
What makes people change towards the other is simply the wrong attitude. It is possible the friend has started displaying a negative attitude.

How you treat other people has to do with the importance you assign to others vs. yourself. Generally, people are rude to one another when they are from different parts of the States because they feel the other persons attitude, way of thinking, and lifestyle is too alien to be compatible.
