Bears are omnivores like humans. This means they eat meat and plants. If a grasshopper was on the menus a bear wouldn't have a problem eating it. But it would take a lot of grasshopper to make a meal for a bear.

In Mexico, people eat chapulines. These are grasshoppers. They also eat nopales, which are pieces of cactus. Nopales taste a lot like mucilage.
Reptiles of any sort can be eaten. Snakes have a lot of bones so be careful. Turtles and tortoises are good. If you choose to eat insects like grasshoppers cook them or you may get tapeworms.

Grasshoppers are green because it helps them hide from birds. Since grasshoppers spend a lot of their time in grassy areas their green color helps them blend in and be harder to see by birds.
There is not some divine, mystical or spiritual force that put grasshoppers on earth to serve a purpose. Grasshoppers are part of a complex ecosystem and evolved to survive in that ecosystem. They are food for a lot of animals.
