If they get stuck, can't reach you in a long period of time, you make them into a crawler then you go too far away from them (on all maps except Call of the Dead) or you make them into a crawler then shoot them. The bullet in them appears to make them bleed out after a period of time (5 minutes or so) similar to when the player is downed by Zombies. Strangely, if you make a zombie a crawler with a grenade, the shrapnel in them from the grenade doesn't make them bleed out.
