I am not sure since I have been doing some research, and turned up little data. However, anecdotally my interest comes from being unable to recall much of my childhood from before I went off ADHD meds at the age of 9-ish (about 3 years). I am only 25 & have heard of others having similar experiences--but there is not much study on the issue. Hopefully we can find out more.

Basically, be cautious with psyche meds. They can in many cases be quite harmful, but make a really positive impact on some people's lives. Just track how you or your child/friend/etc are doing & don't let yourself get carried away by a drug-happy psychiatrist . Good luck

Short term memories are transferred to long term memory through a process called consolidation, which involves strengthening the connections between neurons in the brain. This process is thought to involve the hippocampus and other regions of the brain working together to encode and store the information in a more permanent way. Repeated activation of the memory over time can also contribute to its consolidation into long term memory.
