One opinion behind Misty, May or Dawn being better is the first opinion is that Misty is better because her personality in the anime can be very complex at times since she can be very nice to her friends but will then quickly change moods in a short amount of time particularly anger. She is quite proficient in anything having to do with water as can be seen in certain episodes where she has ability in fishing, swimming, and overall water Pokemon training.

May and Ash seem more like friends, and Misty has all these songs for Ash, and Ash has shown so much more hints to liking Misty than anyone else. So I personally think it's Misty. Well actually its pretty unknown you see Misty likes Proffesor Oak's assistant and May and Drew had a thing. My personal choice is Dawn because there are a lot of hints that they had feelings for eachother. You never really saw that with May or Misty or Iris. But it could be May or Misty or Dawn. I just hope that Game Freak would make it Dawn there are a lot of Pokeshipping/Pearlshipping/advanceshipping

I also think that they are a better couple. But then again Misty and ash seem to have a strange relationship in which they seem to argue over non important things that could possibly just be used to hide their love for each other. In the Orange Islands that gym leader, Rudy, had been flriting her, but she decided to go with Ash and NOT to stay with Rudy. Misty really loves him... dear users witch don't really understand much it's more than obvious that Ash likes Misty, there are many signs that show it, if I write them all I'll take forever anyway there's another guy that wrote something about it look at some other answers dawn! duh?! misty is too old for ash! and its normal for them to blush when people say they are girlfriend and boyfriend! wouldn't you blush if someone did that to you and your friend who is a boy? I think that Ash doesn't really have a giant crush on anyone. Allthough if i would choose id say Misty just because they seem to fight over non important things; as explained in the first answer. second when team rocked called them love birds they both blushed. And lastly Ash refused to give Dawn Misty's fishing lure. The only thing that seems to be a problem is the two year age difference where as Ash is the same age as Dawn. Now that Misty is gone though i think that Ash's relationship with Dawn could possibly grow into being seeing each other as more than a friend. Hope i helped how the hell is dawn and ash the same age dawn just turned 10 and ash has been there for like 10 seasons already so there is noway that he is the same age unless there is no time spent during those 10 seasons

This question is an opinion of what the trainers are like. If someone likes water type Pokemon then the trainer they like could be Misty, but if someone watches the show with Ash as the main character, they may choose him because they know him better than they know misty.
