I've had audacity for a while now and it hasn't had any problems
you may have a out dated version or maybe your running it on the wrong OS
I'm running on vista. if you are worried about viruses, there is a portable version that fits on a flash drive. it is on: www.portableapps.com. it contains no viruses.
