Axel was sent to retrieve Roxas after he left the Organization but when the XIIIth wouldn't return, Axel was sent to dispose of him. The heartless will take madallions from tge chest. You need to get them back using magic. Once you get all of the medallions back into the chest you can do physical damage to the heartless. Eventually the heartless will try to steal the medallions from the chest again. Go near it and press triangle when told to. Continue this process until all of the heartless's health is gone.
