Christians believe that they have been saved by God's grace to do good works (Ephesians 2:10). Firstly they aim to do this because Jesus Christ gave His life to set us free from sin. Many of the Epistles of the New Testament exhort the readers to live blamelessly, so that God will be glorified, the Gospel would not be maligned and that the opponents of Christianity will be put to shame. The "good works" of Christians are summed up by the command, from Jesus lips, that they should love their neighbours as they love themselves (Mark 12:31). This command is further clarified in the Epistles to show that neighbours are not only those who share the faith, but include those who do not share the faith and also those who actively oppose it.
