Yes, there are quite a few new rides opening for the 2011 season at Coney Island's Luna Park. There are a few new Roller Coasters (the first new ones Coney Island has had since the Cyclone opened in 1927) and there is a whole new area of the park called the Scream Zone.
See the Related Link below for the Luna Park website. There are two links from the home page to the Scream Zone section: either click the text link near the top, right side, next to the links to "Job Opportunities," "Webcam," and "Contact Us." There're also six large icons you can click on in the middle of the page. Click the top left one ("ARE YOU READY TO SCREAM? DISCOVER THE BRAND NEW THRILL PARK, SCREAM ZONE AT CONEY ISLAND").
They also have photos, descriptions and height requirements for all of their rides. Scroll to the bottom, left side, under the Park Map section. You'll see the heading, "Attractions," and three links below it: High Thrill, Moderate Thrill and Mild Thrill.

There is more than one Adventureland, but I'm assuming you're talking about the one on Long Island. It doesn't matter, really, if you're asking about Adventureland in Des Moines, or on Long Island, or if you're asking about Six Flags Great Adventure, or any of the other Six Flags parks. All of them are much bigger, and have much better rides and attractions than Coney Island.Basically, any major theme park is better than Coney Island. Coney Island is small. It doesn't have all that many rides, and none of the rides it has -- even the Cyclone -- can compare to the big, high-tech rides they have at major theme parks. You know, the kind where you go upside-down at 200 miles an hour or whatnot.People go to Coney Island, not because it has awesome, terrifying rides that cost millions and millions of dollars to build. People go to Coney Island because, 1) it's cheap, and 2) it's convenient. You can get to Coney Island by subway, which currently (7-2-10) costs $2.25: take the Brooklyn-bound D train (of the B-D-F-V, the orange line) to its last stop, the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue Station. If you don't have much money, it's a big expense for you to rent a car, drive a few hundred miles, and then pay $60 to get into Six Flags or Adventureland. It's also a huge hassle.Getting to Coney Island is cheap and easy. And once you're there, you don't have to spend $60 to get into the amusement park (at least, that was the case with Astroland. Not sure if the rules have changed for the new park, Luna Park, which opened May 2010). Instead, you just pay to get on the individual rides, so, you can spend as little or as much money as you want.Coney Island also has an enormous sentimental value to New Yorkers. We love walking along the Boardwalk, eating fried shrimp and Nathan's hot dogs, watching all the freaky, eccentric people that Coney Island attracts, lounging on the beach drinking beer, etc. Everyone I know looks forward to summer, so we can go to Coney Island.Even though it's not the most impressive amusement park in the world, New Yorkers love it because it's OURS.
Yes, Astroland is the name of the amusement park at Coney Island. Coney Island is in Brooklyn, which is one of the five boroughs of New York City.Edited to add: Coney Island has been under construction in the past year, and as of summer 2010, Astroland has been replaced by a new park called Luna Park. Luna Park was the name of the old amusement park at Coney Island, which burned down in 1944.
