Typically, DC Comics' mini-series are not listed as volumes; only ongoing series.
For example, in 1983 a four issue mini-series was published with the title Green Arrow, but the first volume of Green Arrow is generally considered to be the ongoing series started in the following year. The series ran for 137 issues before cancelation in 1998. Other mini-series (Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters (1987), Green Arrow: The Wonder Year (1993)) were published before another volume of Green Arrow would appear in 2001. The rationale here is that the later mini-series are not counted as volumes (which would make the 2001 series volume 5) and, as a result, neither should the first mini-series -even if the mini-series shares the title with the regular series.
Some indexers of DC comics have opted to ignore this and count all releases for one character as a volume because it is a less complicated system. Marvel Comics is generally indexed in this less complex manner.
