Yes Colorado Medicaid will cover the lap band surgery. I called Medicaid a few days ago to ask the same question I was told they will cover the whole thing as long as your doctor states it's medically necessary and the first step is to have your doctor send them the forms and then you have to wait and see if they will approve it or not .Good luck hope this answers you question.
First you want to check with your doctor and get his/her opinion. There is a questionnaire you can take here http://www.gastricsurgeon.com/weight-loss-surgery-lap-band-surgery-gastric-bypass-surgery/texas/midland . You can also call the Obesity Control Center for referral and information. 1-866-Dr-Ortiz (1-866-376-7849).

lap band refers to a type of weight losssurgery where an adjustable gastric band is placed around the top of the patients stomach creating a small pouch where the food must pass before going to the stomach to be digested. This creates a sort of hour glass effect were the food sits in the pouch and causes it to temporarily becomes stretched when eating. This results in the stomach sending a signal to the brain to indicate that the person is full. This surgery requires follow up care to ensure that the band is adjusted to the correct level and is not too tight, or too loose. With a good adjustment the person will decrease their portion size and remain full for longer periods. In addition or diet and exercise, the band is a great tool for weight loss. The oband is not a type of surgery, it is actually a referral group. It works like 1-800-dentist. You call them and they will make you an appointment for one of the doctors they have to be seen at their facility. Most Dr.'s (like Carson D. Liu) also have their own practice and see patients privately in their own offices. If you would like to skip the middle man and get to the doctor you want, you can call their offices directly.
You would need to find a bariatric surgeon in your area familiar with the lap band procedure. Here are a few to try: Drexel Surgical Associates - 866-721-4556; Rhohit Patel, MD - 866-721-4556; Kowalski Christopher, MD - 215-722-3258.
