I saw some squirrel type animal in a European campsite once that were very tame. The village name was connected to this native animal- does anyone know where I might have been because I cannot remember where I was at all! I'm going back 15/20 years and now I'd like to take my daughter.

Are ground hogs and prairie dogs the same?

No. Prairie dogs are totally different species than groundhogs. Groundhogs and woodchucks, however, are the same species with a different name. Groundhogs are a lot larger and have a more patterned brown and black coat. Prairie dogs have sandy yellow coats and, depending on if their black tailed prairie dogs or white tailed prairie dogs, have a black or white tipped tail. Prarie dogs also live in warmer environments and usually live in large groups where as groundhogs are mostly loners.
