'Adam' simply means 'man' in Hebrew. So, we could write Adam out of the story altogether, replacing him by 'a man', or just have one or two references to Adam. Either way, as long as we let the first man speak Hebrew, a language otherwise not known until the second millennium BCE, Adam did not need anyone to name him.
