Holt has spent most of his career in the lower leagues of the English system, with his early career also taking him into Italy with Sorrento, and Singapore with Sengkang Punggol. With his longest stint for a single team being a four-year spell for Norwich City between 2009 and 2013, he moved away from the team at the end of the 2012-13 season.
