Hermes was a son of Zues and he stole 50 of Apollo's cattlesacraficed 2 to the gods and created the lier. After this Apollo marched into his cave and chased him to Olympus. There Zues told Hermes to give Apollo back his cattle. He noticed two were missing so Hermes played his lier and Apollo said if he gave him the lier he would forgive hid debt. Hermes drove a hard bargain. He made him forgive his debt AND give him his wand. Impressed with his son Zues gave him a throne. But first he made him swear on the River Styx he would never steal again. Hermes agreed. From then on he was the god of travel, and theives, altought he never stole. He was also the messenger of the Gods.
