It may be leaking at the drain plug located at the bottom of the pump housing. It may be leaking throught the gasket/o-ring that seal the pump cover to the pump housing. The seal may be installed incorrectly. There may be a crack in the pump housing/cover assembly. You may be able to observe water squirting fron the leak by watching the pump while it is running.

No the timing chain or belt is located inside the cover on the housing of the engine, look for the bottom radiator hose it will lead you to the water pump.
