Lizzie chooses Chaz over Luke. At first, when Luke proposes, Lizzie says yes, and then drives Chaz out of her house, despite his protests that she is not doing the right thing and not marrying the right guy. However, soon, she begins to realize that she really loves him. She grows jealous of his girlfriend (Valencia). Then, during a fourth of July party by Shari, Lizzie is talking with Chaz when she finds out that her Gran died. She goes home for the funeral, and, while Luke is still in Paris, Chaz comes to comfort her. She gets together with him. Later, she still goes out with Chaz, because Luke is in Paris and she can't break up with him. She, however, is disconcerted by the fact that Chaz doesn't believe in weddings. Later, Luke comes over, and she officially breaks off her relationship with him and gets together with Chaz. At the end of the book, Chaz asks Lizzie to marry him the next day.
