The South American country of Peru is a constitutional republic, like the United States. As such, the leader of their executive branch is a President (currently President Alan Garcia Perez). Unlike the United States, Peru's government includes two Vice Presidents and a Prime Minister.

Peru became a republic following the proclamation of independence by Jose de San Martin on 28 July 1821. This ended the war of independence which had begun in 1809. Formerly, Peru had been subject to Spain which at that time was a monarchy.
The terms democratic and republican (unless used to describe the two main political parties of the USA) are not mutually exclusive. Peru has been a republic since 28 July 1821 when it achieved independence from Spain (which at the time was a monarchy). Peru is a democracy as electors can vote for a variety of political parties (as well as independent candidates) in elections.
He was born ca.1478 and died in 1541. He conquered the Inca empire in Peru. He set up an Inca puppet monarchy at Cuzco in 1535.
