It can weaken your nails if not used with a base coat and removed with a good nail polish remover. To strengthen them try Sally Hansen diamond strength, it works wonders.
If you would like a clear coat, what i prefer, then use Sally Hansen Hard As Nails. If you want a color look at the Sally Hansen collection and pick out one. Remember to take off the nail polish after a few weeks so ur nails wont turn YELLOW!!
You don't neccesarily soak it in anything but what you can do is put on nail polish and leave it(perferbly sally hansen maxium growth). If it strips, remove the polish. if the nail breaks, cut it immediately. try to put on a coat every two days. don't submerge the nails in water too long. water causes the nail to weaken and break. Try not to bite them if they break. The saliva may damage the nail. You'll have perfect, good looking nails in no time.
Painting your nails at home is actually pretty simple, as long as you buy quality nail polish. Some nail polish brands that I always use are Sally Hansen, Wet n' Wild, and L'Oreal. When you paint your nails, make sure that you have enough room because this will make it easier and cause less irritation while painting your nails. In order to have smooth, pretty nails, start with a clear base coat. Then, apply the nail polish color you are using. Finally, put on a clear top coat in order to preserve the color and keep the nail polish on you nails for longer. If you want to get fancy and add designs to your nails, Sally Hansen also makes nail polish pens which are great for adding polka dots, flowers, and other patterns to your nails.
For me it is Sally Hansen regular. But here are some steps to get the mani that really lasts! 1. Soak you fingers in a bowl of warm soapy water. 2. Dry off with a towel and pick out your color. 3. Put hand lotion on and be sure to get your cuticals. 4. Put on Bonder BEFORE the colored polish. (This makes your nail polish stay longer) 5. Put the color on. Be sure to paint a line down the middle first and then on the sides to get the whole nail without getting nail polish on your fingers. 6. Wait for it to be dry to the touch. 7. Put on a clear coat. (Makes it shiney and not chip) 8. Once dry, soak fingers in really cold water to harden the nails. 9. Use a nail polish remover stick to clean up any of the messy nail polish on your fingers.
Clear nail polish is a special coat of nail polish to protect the other coat of nail polish
Different nail polishes can have different results, but generally, it does make some differences, it does make nails grow a bit slower than when you don't have any nail polish on. Protecting the nail from wear can help then be longer, not by making them grow, but by helping them not wear off. Cheap polish and remover and not using a good base coat can make them dry and they may peel or split more.

Darker nail polishes sometimes make your nails look longer, but, it only depends on your skin color. A couple easy ways to make your nails look longer is to apply a French Manicure. All you need is a white nail polish (that actually turns out white), a light pink color (French Coat) and a clear top coat. You can paint the white and then apply the rest. Or you can buy nail growth nail polish at a grocery store. A brand I know is Sally Hansen.
base coat, let it dry nail polish, let drynail polish, let dryand top coat. but b4 the base coat u can also use cuticle oil
If you have clear coat nail polish put that on and let it dry. After it dries put another coat on and quickly put that fake nail on after applying the second coat. Press until you think it can air dry itself.
all you need is purified water, nail polish, tape, top coat, and base coat.
