Actually it probably isn't the file size it's probably the file type. Sony vegas will crash with .MOV and .MP4 a lot of the time. Also sometimes it will crash if the file is big enough. But other than that no. I use SV to edit a bunch of clips (about 6-15gb each)
Why not try converting the mp4 to another file name extension(format) to see if it opens in Sony Vegas Pro? Can't hurt to try.
Sony Vegas accepts most file formats. However, some people have had difficulty with mp4 formats with Sony. I've always suggested converting them to another format you are sure is compatible with the program instead of enduring the frustration of trying to figure out why certain ones don't work.
