It depends. If you are running a very old or bad computer (worse or equal to a netbook) then it will probably not work very good. If you run a classic interface on windows, it should still run good anyways. If your computer has specs better than a netbook, Windows 7 should run fine.
Windows 7 is a step forward from xp and a huge step forward from vista. If you are running Vista, I recommend 7 to the fullest. Plus if you are running vista, you have the upgrade option, which allows you to keep your files and programs. Plus, doing the upgrade is cheaper. The downside to the upgrade is that it is more complex and time consuming. If are not experienced with computers, the upgrade option is not recommended.
If are running xp, this changes things. Although I find 7 better then xp, many long time users tend to disagree. In the end, it often comes down to a matter of preference. If you like the changes that are advertised, then you probably will like 7. If you think that the new features look like a bunch of eye candy with no practical value, stick with xp. One other thing to put into consideration is that xp is old. For this reason, it does not utilize new technologies like 7 can.
