Does a 1996 ford mustange have a transmission fluid dipstick?
On a 1996 Ford Mustang :
Just the automatic transmissions ( for the GT also ) have an automatic
transmission fluid level dipstick
It is located in the engine compartment , near the firewall , towards the
passenger side of the engine compartment on the passenger side of the
engine , where the transmission is bolted to the rear of the engine

When There is no red cap and no dipstick on a 1996 Pontiac sunfire transmission and you have drained it how do you refill it?
the above answer that a manual transmission has no dipstick may not be entirely accurate. many manual transmissions (including that in my 1993 cavalier VL 5sp.) do have a dipstick for checking the manual transmission fluid. jack the car up and check the rear end of the transmission, just below the level of the CV axles. look for a plastic cap with an "L" shape to it hanging over the back end of a plateau…
If you are standing by the nose, facing the car, it is on the left side of the engine, all the way in the back. The dipstick can be identified easily by a loop, from which you can pull it out with. At the bottom of the dipstick, there is an indicator so you can test the transmission fluid while it is either cold, or hot.
I called a local garage and was directed by the service man. The transmission dipstick is located in back of the oil fill cap. It is covered with a lever that must be lifted up to remove the dipstick. Mine is a rusty tube where the dipstick is found. I would not have found it without the service man's direction.
