The DvD ripper will copy the information from the disc, it will not remove the information off of it.

Depends how its damaged. If its water damaged the disk may not work at all. If it is smashed or cracked it may become corrupt depending on how much of the internal disk is exposed to the outside. If the disk is damaged, that means some of the information will not be saved in contiguous space and won't be read properly.
