There are two ways that the thick fur on a harp seal helps it to stay warm, even in the extremely cold Arctic and the northernmost parts of the Atlantic Ocean, where the water temperature is about 30 degrees Fahrenheit (because salt water freezes at a lower temperature than freshwater). The thick fur on a harp seal is watertight, and thus cold water cannot touch the seal's skin directly. The fur also traps air bubbles which act as insulation for the seal.
white coats
Harp seal eyes allow them to see great underwater, most often times seeing their prey perfectly before their prey see them. Their whiskers also serves as an antenna sensing the smallest vibrations in the water of their prey. Baby harp seals use their white fur to camoflauge with the ice and snow.
