you should put one on because it keeps the humidity in. If their humidity gets to low, they will suffocate.
a hermit crab needs more than one friend normally. you should have a plastic or glass aquarium. crabby will need a hermie hut and a food bowl or shell. your crab will need water and something to climb on. and best of all a loving home.
in a ten or five gallon tank, you can use one of the lids especially made for those tanks. Those are the only cages hermit crabs can live in, so if you don't have a glass 10 gallon tank, get one! Make sure the lid has airholes
That depends on what you mean by "sleep." Hermit crabs are nocturnal, which means they usually come out at night. The reason they are nocturnal in their native habitat is because it is too hot for them to come out during the day, though you will see them out and about on overcast days. When hermit crabs are kept in captivity and their conditions are perfect, they will occasionally cease being strictly nocturnal and will roam their cages during the daytime. A hermit crab that stays in its shell, and does not move all winter is probably dead. Winter is a hard time for most hermit crabs, because most hermit crab owners do not understand that hermit crabs must be kept in humid conditions, at temperatures above 75 degrees. When the temperature gets below 65 they start to slow down and will eventually die if they stay cold for too long. If their cage is not humid enough, they will suffocate to death because they require humid air to breathe properly. As a side note, the plastic boxes most places sell as hermit crab cages are TERRIBLE for hermit crabs. A person interested in owning and caring for hermit crabs should be ready to spend at least $50 (preferably more!) on a good home for them, a glass aquarium with a snug-fitting glass lid to hold in humidity, and a reliable heat source.
It depends, if it's spring or summer and it's between 70-90 then yes, but only for a little while because they need humidity of 70-80 to breathe because they have modified gills (but they can still drown). Also make sure there are no fertilizers where the hermie is crawling about.
well this answer depends on how many crabs you have living in one tank. the crab(s) should have enough room to crawl around freely. and trust me i have 4, they love to crawl EVERYWHERE!!! well they are master escape artists so make sure that it has a lid with holes to breathe.
The volume of an aquarium itself will not change if it does not have a lid; the physical dimensions of the tank remain the same. However, without a lid, water may evaporate over time, leading to a decrease in the amount of water in the aquarium. This evaporation does not change the tank's total volume but affects the volume of water it contains. Additionally, an open aquarium may be more susceptible to contamination and temperature fluctuations.
Most people keep snakes in an aquarium with a very secure lid. The bottom of the aquarium will have sand or gravel and something for the snake to climb on or hide under. A warming light is also a good idea.
you well need . a lid from a shoe box .glue .aquarium gravel .plaster of pairs .smooth stones and the rest you can
A fish aquarium will be fine or a tank with a lid shall do
A dead fish.
oh yes. they are pro escape artists and will find all sorts of crazy ways to get out of the tank and explore. hermit crabs are very smart. They can find some tricky way to get out. make sure you have the proper top for you tank unless you want to find a hermit crab on your bed.
There are these tiny little sea sponges you can find in little clear baggies hanging up in the fish/reptile care and supplies section of any Walmart and you just soak them with water and set them in the cage. You can also place the sponge in a small jar lid after you wet it if you don't want all the surrounding sand to get wet. You just replace the sponge every few days when it gets drier.
