Quite the opposite. They freeze from the shallow and shady parts first. I know from first hand experience of falling through thin ice more than once.
the lake can keep warmth in the center while the outside gets colder. The outside is the closest to the cold. The inside is the farthest away from the cold.
In the center of the Lake is an Island. That is where the entrance is. During Winter the Lake will freeze and that is the only time you will be able to go there.
