What Are the Advantages of a Pellet Stove?

Pellet stoves are a type of wood burning stove that appropriately enough does not use a traditional log. The furnace uses small cylindrical pieces of wood as its fuel. The pellets need to be processed which does make them slightly more expensive than firewood. People who live in a forest may notice that firewood is in fact free in many locations. Even though the fuel costs more, the pellet format allows the stove to burn the wood more efficiently than a standard wood burner. Pellet stoves get installed in a house, cabin or building as with any other system. The stove requires adequate ventilation to prevent the build-up of dangerous gases. As with any stove or chimney, the flues require regular maintenance. Pellet stoves can heat a home effectively, but they often do no serve as the home's primary source of winter fuel. People bring the stove in to supplement their current system and lower their other heating bills. They also work in rooms that are not connected to a normal house's heating system, such as a basement or an attic. Pellet stoves should be stored in an area that children do not have easy access to. The surface of the stove gets hot enough to burn incautious individuals who get to close. An enterprising individual may decide to let the wood stove double as both a way to heat the home and cook meals at the same time, although pellet stoves rarely see such use. Pellet stoves may have electronic chips that control the temperature. Manufacturers try to keep the electronic controls to a minimum as they can easily get damaged. Pellet stoves often operate in environments that are dusty, moldy and damp. An operating stove will solve some of these problems, but only while it is in use. No one uses pellet stoves year-round, although they are used more frequently in colder climates than they are in warmer climates.
