Copper and zinc-plated pennies do not rust, because they're not made of iron. The only American pennies that could rust were the steel cents struck in 1943.
You might believe that a penny is rusting but instead it is corroding! Yes, it does not rust it just corrodes.
Yes a penny can rust....
Well, yes, but -The only US cents that can rust are the famous 1943 wartime pennies made of steel. All other cents are made of copper, bronze, or plated zinc so they can only tarnish, not rust.It depends on what liquid you're trying to use. I will say for and Orange Juice bleach it will take about 1 to 2 weeks before it rust/corrode. Water will probably take the longest to corrode the penny. Good luck!
Old pennies were made of copper, and copper does not rust. It does however oxidize, giving it an aqua green color. New pennies are mad of steel plated in copper, and steel can rust. However, this method is referred to as sacrificial protection, where one metal will 'sacrifice' itself so the other metal will not rust as fast.
It took me 2 hours for my penny to rust but it was a 5 pence!
up to 100 years or more
Pennies are copper and do not rust.
Yes water makes a penny rust faster in water because the particles are nore affective and the coke does not have near as many particles as water well good luck with the expirementing that project!!!!!!!!
Leave it in salt water overnight and it will start to rust. Copper rusts a green color. You can accelerate the action with a little bleach if you really want it to rust quickly.
A penny gets dirty in the first place because of being exposed to oxygen in the air, causing a chemical reaction between the copper and oxygen, which forns rust. Since water is one third oxygen, and the air only contains about 10 percent of oxygen, you can assume that water makes a penny even worse. Cola is extremely acidic, so it eats away at the dirt and rust. But if you leave it too long, it will start dissolving the penny itself.
This really depends on the concentration of impurities in water. More the impurities, faster it will rust the iron nail. To reduce rusting of any iron the best way is to paint the nail.
Technically it does not rust, as that phenomenon only occurs with iron. In a moist environment, carbon dioxide and oxygen will react with the copper surface of a penny to form copper I carbonate.

water
Lemonade
it will rust faster in vinegar
salt water
a long time
saltwater, regular water, and vinegar can all speedup the rusting of a penny
Nope! Sorry. Water will not clean a penny. If a coin stays too long in water, it might rust.
Yes it does I did an experiment on it
water and iron. Creating iron oxide aka rust.
