It will heat faster with the pump running... sort of. The issue is thermoclines. Water of a particualr temperature has a specific density. Cooler water is more dense than hot water, so hot water tends to rise and cold water tends to sink. This process creates what is called stratification. With the hot water on top, it creates the opportunity for much of that heat to radiate back into the air before it has the chance to transfer some of that heat into the colder temperature water below. If you want to heat the entire pool to a uniform temperature, turn the pump on. If you want the deep end to be colder than the shallow end, leave it off.
i thaught it was to keep the heat in, so run the pump duiring the day with cover off and then cover the pool at night to keep the heat in the pool . the pump heats water by moving it. friction..pool pump repair guy in longwood fl
It would seem that the small amount of friction created by the Impeller turning in the water would help add heat to the Pool Water.
To evenly distribute the water and mix the cold with the warm the pump should be on.
It heats better with the cover on because more heat gets trapped inside..

At night yes. During sunny days, you will be better off removing the cover or using a clear cover.
You must first DRAIN the water off the pool cover!! Get a hose or plastic tube (available from most pet stores (fish department) and syphon off the water. This will take th weight of the water off the cover so you can lift it off of the pool.

Yes. It will also heat the pool quickly. A thermometer may be needed to let you know when to remove the cover and cool the water-- otherwise the warm water will grow algae quickly when the cover is left off.
On, it does not stop the sun from heating the water, it holds the heat in though. ( evaporation cools it quickly and the cover prevents this )
You are measuring the amount of heat given off by the environment which include factors such as the sun, cloud cover, precipitation, and other. But essentially it is just how fast the molecules in the air are moving and the faster they are moving then they will get off more heat. (Not to be confused with wind)
