Does a quarter horse make a good pet if your a horseback rider?

If you get a good, non-stubborn Quarter Horse, then yes Quarter Horses are great to just ride around in. If your not going into compitions, get a slower Quarter Horse, also aging around 12-16. Gelding not stallion, I prefer mares.
I have my own experience on Quarter Horses, I have 3 of them and I Barrel Race with my horse. And they are very gentle 'giants'! I recommend them.

Well it depends. Trail ridding and pleasure ridding requires no skill at all. But if you are a competition rider you know how challenging the sport can be. To be a good rider you must me athletic and have good balance. Ridding takes a lot of leg muscles. To be a good rider you have to have a very high level of patience, because you must realize that a horse is a smart animal that can get confused, frightened, or just plain stubborn at times. But what i think the most important aspect to be a good rider is to have trust in your mount, while the horse you are ridding has to have trust in you. The chances that you would end up having a good ride if both the horse and rider don't trust each other is very slim.

A rider who has a balanced seat and good equitation should not have an issue if their horse trips unexpectedly. Good posture, a correct and deep seat with the heels down should keep the rider balanced even if the horse trips.
