No, not at all. There are several differences:
-- one uses mostly the arms; the other uses mostly the legs
-- the swim is shorter than 3 miles; the run takes longer than 3 minutes
-- one requires shoes; the other doesn't
-- one is in water; the other isn't
It so much depends on how fast you run and how fast you swim and what type of stroke, and your weight. But roughly, say you run a 10 minute mile you burn 100 calories; say you swim 12 laps (300 meters) in 10 minutes you burn about the same 100 calories. A mile is 1600 meters, so a mile swim is a about a 5 mile run. Or 12 laps is about a mile run
they are fast they can swim up to a 1/2 mile a minute
A statute mile is 5,280 feet long. It just SEEMS longer when you're trying to swim it. (A nautical mile is 6025 feet.)
The 1500m swim is considered the mile race, so pretty close.
There are 1,609.344 meters in a mile. When 1 length = 1 lap, you would need to complete 64.3 laps to swim a mile.

You swim a mile.
A 23 meter pool is equal to a 25 yard pool. In a swim race, the mile is 66 laps. An actual mile is 68 laps. Its weird.
0.5 mile = 880 yards - whether you swim or walk or run is irrelevant.
