Some two stroke engines have 4 valves, Detroit Diesel 71 series and 53 series engines for example.

Most small 2 stroke engines have no "Valves" at all in the sense of the "POP" valve used in four stroke engines.

Some people feel these engine has one valve because the piston acts as the valve covering the ports cut into the cylinder walls.

What engine has only one valve per cylinder?

Steam engines have 1 valve per cylinder. I have never heard of a gasoline engine with 1 per cylinder, but many 2 stroke motors have no valves at all........

How many intake events are there in one revolution of a four cylinder engine?

There is only one intake stroke in a four-stroke engine. The other three strokes are compression, power, and exhaust. The intake stroke is a down stroke of the piston in which fuel is drawn into the cylinder while the fuel intake valve is open. The next stroke is the compression stroke in which the valves are closed and the fuel is compressed for combustion. The following stroke is the power stroke - a downward stroke of the piston after fuel combustion that drives the crankshaft. The final stroke is the exhaust stroke, an upward stroke of the piston as the exhaust valve opens to relieve the exhaust fuel fumes.

What is the advantage of parallel twin-cylinder engine over V-twin cylinder engine?

For 4 stroke engines parallel twin is compact needs only 1 cylinder head and potentially less valve train but I think they need more crankshaft counter balancing. its mostly a packaging advantage in my opinion.

How do you set timing on 2 stroke 2 cylinder engines?

Hi, The answer for your question would be, the timing will set based on crank angle position only as it is done in 4 stroke engine. It differs for a TBI based engine and GDI based engine.

What car has a 4 cylinder 24 valve engine?

No 4 cylinder car has 24 valves. Only 16. A V6 has 24 valves -reply- no your wrong.. the 2010 Mazda 3 is a 4 cylinder inline engine with 24 valves

Why does a cam shaft run at half the speed of the crankshaft?

The four strokes of a four-stroke engine are intake, compression, power and exhaust. The crankshaft controls the upward and downward motion of the pistons. The camshaft controls the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves. Intake stroke- the intake valve is open and the exhaust valve is closed. The piston moves downward, decreasing the pressure in the cylinder, which draws the fuel-air mixture in through the intake valve. Compression stroke- both the intake valve and the exhaust valve are closed. The piston moves upward, compressing the fuel-air mixture. When the piston nears TDC (top dead center), the fuel-air mixture is ignited by the spark plug. Power stroke- both the intake valve and the exhaust valve are closed. The explosion caused by the ignition of the fuel-air mixture (combustion) forces the piston downward. Exhaust stroke- the intake valve is closed and the exhaust valve is open. The piston moves upward, forcing the gases produced by combustion out of the cylinder through the exhaust valve. So, for each firing of a given cylinder, the intake valve opens once and the exhaust valve opens once. But, for each firing of a given cylinder, the piston must travel downward and then upward twice (in each direction.). Therefore, the crankshaft must rotate twice per given cylinder firing, while the camshaft rotates only once per given cylinder firing.

Does a 1988 Cadillac DeVille have a northstar engine?

No it does not. The only engine in the 1988 Cadillac De Ville was the 4.5 Digital fuel injected engine. The 4.5 engine is a 2 valve per cylinder overhead valve (not overhead cam) engine. It was a good engine but not in the power category as the Northstar.

Can you name and describe the four strokes that make up one full cycle of a 4-stroke engine?

The Otto cycle, know as the four stroke cycle is as follows.InductionCompressionPowerExhaustThis is a simplified explanation of a petrol engine, the basic details are correct. Most are also relevant to a CI engine. It is not meant to be a definitive answer and is only a description for the basic operation.Induction:The inlet valve opens and the piston moves down the cylinder causing a partial vacuum and drawing an air/fuel mixture into the cylinder through the inlet manifold.Compression:The inlet valve closes and the piston moves up the cylinder compressing the air/fuel mixture. The compression ratios vary.Power:Near the top of the compression stroke a spark is induced and the air/fuel mixture is ignited. This causes the gasses to expand rapidly and forces the piston down the cylinder.Exhaust:The exhaust valve opens and the piston moves up the cylinder expelling the burnt gasses out through the exhaust manifold. The exhaust valve closes and the cycle starts again.intake: In this stroke air (and in non-fuel-injected engines gasoline) is drawn in.compression: In this stroke air (and in non-fuel-injected engines gasoline) is compressed (just before the end of this stroke in fuel-injected engines the gasoline is injected, then a spark ignites the fuel/air mixture).expansion: in this stroke the burning fuel/air mixture pushes against the piston, doing work.exhaust: in this stroke the burnt fuel/air mixture is pushed from the cylinder to make room for a fresh charge on the next intake stroke.Intake, compression, power, exhaust. The first stroke down takes the air/fuel mixture in thus intake, then as the cylinder rotates up, the mixture compresses. The fuel is ignited and the power stroke starts down and as the cylinder goes back up it is the exhaust phase where it expels the burnt fuel and then starts the first stroke again

Is a 1997 mercury mountaineer 2 valve or 3?

1997 was the first year of the Mercury Mountaineer and the only engine available was the 5 liter over head valve ( OHV ) design with ( 2 ) valves per engine cylinder

What are the two function of the valve?

The intake valve let's Air and fuel into the cylinder when it opens. The exhaust valve lets burned exhaust gases out of the cylinder when it opens. When they are both closed then the piston will compress the air/fuel mixture and then the spark plug will fire and explode the gases. That is the only time that both valves are closed at the same time, COMPRESSION STROKE

What is a single cylinder engine?

An engine works by placing fuel in a cylinder and igniting it to create movement on the push or downward movement. A single cylinder uses only one cylinder to burn fuel. It is more efficient to use 2 or more to create movement on the up AND downward stroke of a fuel burn. Hope this helps.
