How do you change a spark plug?

Without more information about the type of engine, and the vehicle it is in, all you can expect to get is generic information. Generally, with the engine cold. You need to remove the spark plug wire from the plug, twisting while pulling on the "boot" not the wire! Next find the correct spark plug socket,(one that the new spark plug fits into, AND holds the spark plug. Now make sure the place that the old spark plug is screwed into is clean, using compressed air blow out around the old spark plug to keep dirt and sand from falling into the cylinders (scoring/scratching the life out of them!) Using a 3/8" drive rachet, an extention and the spark plug socket, put the socket in the hole that you removed the spark plug wire from and turn the socket counter clockwise until the spark plug is free. Inspect the spark plug for unusual wear, or deposits this could be a sign of engine problems. Take the new spark plug check the gap!! if it is correct place it in the socket and start theading it in the spark plug hole by hand, turning it clockwise. Tighten the plug firmly, but not till all the veins pop out of your face. Reinstall the sparkplug wire you should feel it snap onto the end of the spark plug. Continue on with each of the other spark plugs making sure to always put the exact same wire onto the plug you took it off of. Note it is a good idea to put a small amount off anti-sieze compound on the threads of the new spark plugs to aid in the installation and removal. Also when reinstalling the spark plug wires use some silicone grease in the boot so that next time the boots will pull off easily. I hope this is some help. Melvis

How do you change sparkplugs on a 1994 ford tauras?

The spark plugs used in your car require a deep spark plug socket for removal and installation. A specially designed pair of wire removal pliers, Spark Plug Wire Remover T74P-6666-A or equivalent, is also a good tool to have for vehicles other than the 3.0L/3.2L SHO. The special pliers have cupped jaws that grip the plug wire boot and make the job of twisting and pulling the wire from the plug easier. When you are removing spark plugs, you should work on one at a time. Avoid removing the plug wires all at once because, unless you number them, they may get mixed up; if you must (or prefer to) do so, take a minute before removing the wires to number them with tape. The time you spend doing this will pay off later when it comes time to reconnect the wires to the plugs. For easy access when servicing the spark plugs, remove the air cleaner assembly and air intake tube: 1) Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2) Twist the spark plug boot and gently pull it from the spark plug. For all vehicles except the 3.0L and the 3.2L SHO, using the special plug wire pliers will aid in ease of removal and prevent damage to the wire and inside connector. **NEVER pull on the wire itself, as damage to the inside conductor couldoccur! If available, use Spark Plug Remover Tool Y74P-6666-A or equivalent toprevent the wire separating from its connector inside the boot** 3) The plug wire boot has a cover which shields the plug cavity (in the cylinder head) against dirt. After removing the wire, blow out the cavity with compressed air or clean it out with a small brush, so no foreign material enters the cylinder when the spark plug is removed. 4) Remove the spark plug with a plug socket. Turn the socket counterclockwise to remove the plug. Be sure to hold the socket straight on the plug to avoid breaking the insulator. A deep socket designed for spark plugs has a rubber cushion built-in to help prevent plug breakage. 5) Once the plug is out, compare it with the spark plug illustrations to determine the engine condition. This is crucial since spark plug readings are vital signs of engine condition and pending problems. 6) Use a round wire feeler gauge to check plug gap. The correct size gauge should pass through the electrode gap with a slight drag. If you're in doubt, try the next smaller and larger sizes. The smaller gauge should go through easily and the larger should not go through at all. If adjustment is necessary, use the bending tool on the end of the gauge. When adjusting the gap, always bend the side electrode. The center electrode is non-adjustable. 7) Squirt a drop of penetrating oil on the threads of the spark plug and install it. Don't oil the threads heavily. Turn the plug in clockwise by hand until it is snug. **Do NOT use the spark plug socket to thread the plugs. Always thread the plugby hand to prevent the possibility of cross-threading and damaging the cylinderhead** 8) After the the plug is finger-tight, torque it to 17-22 ft. lbs. (23-30 Nm). DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! 9) Thinly coat the inside of the boot and terminal with silicone dielectric compound (Motorcraft D7AZ-19A331-A or equivalent). 10) Install the plug wire boot firmly over the spark plug. Push the boot until it clicks into place. The click may be felt or heard, then gently pull back on the boot to assure proper contact. 11) Connect the negative battery cable.

How would you test a spark plug?

On a carburetors motor pull the coil wire from the distributor cap (the plug wire in the center of the distributor). This is usually found between the air cleaner and the firewall. Remove the desired spark plug from the engine block, plug it into the coil wire and touch the spark plug body (the metal portion) to the engine block while cranking the engine. You will see spark if the plug is good.

How do I Change spark plug wires on ram 1500?

do yourself a favor, and buy a repair manual from either haynes, or chilton specific to your truck. pull wire from plug pull from the boot, not the wire. remove plug with appropriate socket careful not to break plug in cyl head, or you will be swearing alot and need a machine shop to repair the problem. check plug condition, use chart included in the manual, it will give you an idea of the condition of the engine. get new plug. gap it to .35. Chrysler recommends champion rc12yc (i believe) carefully thread plug into hole carefully screw it in w/socket do not over tighten. re attach wire. repeat until all plugs are replaced. its a good idea to disconnect batt before beginning work, allow 5-10 min to allow your air bag to power down so it wont go off while you work -when plug is out of the cyl hole, blow air into hole to remove any crap in the hole. -lightly coat new plug w/anti seize compound. this will make removal easier the next time you change plugs. -some people apply a dab of dielectric grease on their plug wire contact inside the boot. this will help keep moisture out -do one wire at a time, mark them if you have to. it is easy to forget where the wire goes if you pull off more than one wire at a time.

What does a three phase motor look like?

A three phase motor looks like any other motor from the outside. It might be a little larger than a standard motor but it looks the same. If it is not hardwired but has a plug, the plug will have four prongs instead of three. The socket will look different from a standard socket or the socket for a stove or air conditioner. It will also have four holes. The hole for the ground plug will have a special indent. That makes it so you can not put the plug in wrong. A two phase motor will run the correct way regardless of how you put the plug in the socket. If you would put the plug for three phase motor in the socket the wrong way, the motor would run backwards.
