The default codes on the Action Replay DS are ones created by Codejunkies. You can get other codes created by gamers of other sites (http://www.warc.us/) Some types of codes that come on the Action Replay are Unlimited Health, Unlimited Ammo, and etc. (depending on the game you have).
when you buy a action replay it should come with a code manager that puts codes on your action replay when you connect it to the computer (you get to manually pick which games from which region) so they work on the game you have.
The action replays come preloaded with cheat codes, but of course you will need to update it with games that have come out since then. Also it's not possible to fit cheats for every game on it, so you might have to add a few yourself.
If an Action Replay is incorrectly used, incompatible codes are activated together, or you use certain codes that come with warnings of potential file corruption, you may delete your save file. first of all you can't type in any codes without the action replay, but if you go to wall mart the action replay is about $20 then you go to www.codejunkies.com then you choose ds,gba then you type in Pokemon soul silver and then some codes but if you have a dsi action replay then cheat codes already come with it like no wild encounters or hold b+a while walking for encounter and there is a file that says RANDOM ENCOUNTER CODES: sorry
