Very few employers are required to pay you mileage at all, so the fact that you calculate mileage at all is a bonus. That being said, the employer has a perfect right to determine the amount of miles and the rate at which they pay you.
An employer can pay any amount they want for gas mileage. The federal government allows an employee to claim a deduction for the business mileage if the employer does not reimburse the employee for the expense.
Your employer is not required to do so unless you have an agreement with them do pay. You do have certain rights to deduct this mileage from your taxes if you meet certain requirements.

Your employer should be telling you what the mileage is. At my place of employment, we get 50.5 cents a mile.

Is my employer by law to pay me for mileage if he requires me to go to another site he owns to pick up company supplies in my personal vehicle?
