What is a controlled experiment?

A controlled experiment is one in which only one variable is changed at a time. A variable is something which can vary, or have different values. Scientific investigations always involve three types of variables: 1) The independent variable: this is the variable which you deliberately alter, so you will know its values before you start the experiment. For example, if you want to know how the amount of light a plant gets affects its growth, you must give aome plants different amounts of light. Since you need to choose the amounts, you will know the values of this variable before you start the experiment. 2) The dependentvariable:this is the variable you must measure to find out if it changes as a result of you changing the independent variable. Since you have to measure it to find out its values, you will not know the values (ie the results) before doing the experiment. In the plant example you wouls have to find some way of measuring plant growth in the different light conditions. 3) Controlvariables: these are any other variables which may affect the values of your dependent variable, so they need to be kept constant to make it a fair test. In our example, things like the temperature or the amount of water could also alter plant growth, so they would have to be kept constant. These variables are also called confounding variables. The basic principle is only alter one variable (the independent variable) at a time; keep everything else the same. What is the independent variable on graphs?

it is the variable that you change during an experiment and is placed on the x axis. for example, if you are checking for the effect of light intensity on water uptake by a plant, the independent variable is the different light intensity values that you have and the dependent variable is the rate of water uptake which will be on the y axis.

Why is it important for a scientist to use controlled experiments where only one factor is changed and the rest remain constant?

Because the goal of an experiment is to figure out the cause and effect of something on something else. Without a control variable(s), any number of causes could produce the observed effect, making it very difficult to determine exactly which cause produced the observed effect.

What are the main parts of of a controlled experiment?

The main parts of a controlled experiment are the dependent variable and the independent variable. The dependent variable is what is measured in the experiment. The independent variable is the variable that is varied or manipulated by the researcher. The independent variable is the presumed cause, whereas the dependent variable is the presumed effect.

What is the point of a controlled experiment?

The point of a controlled experiment is to assess the effect of one variable in a life process. This could also be for a chemical process.

What is a controlled variable in an experiment?

controlled variable is the factor that leaved unchanged to investigate any only one factor that has been changed in the other experiment and the effect of not altering this factor.

What does a variable stand for in math?

A variable is a very important thing when you are doing an experiment. These are things that have an effect on the experiment. There are three categories of variables in math:The controlled variable: variable the never changesThe manipulated variable: variable that does changeThe responding variable: the result of the experiment

What is control in an experiment?

Controlled experiments are used to investigate the effect of a variable on a particular system.

What is an experiment that involves changing one factor and observing its effect on another while keeping all other factors constant?

Controlled experiment. The thing you change is called the independent variable and the constants are the dependent variables. By only changing the independent variable, any results can be attributed to this.

In an experiment what are the controlled variables?

The variable YOU change which will in turn effect another variable (the dependent variable). The controlled variable is plotted on the x - axis of a graph.

Within the framework of an experiment how do you describe the independent variable dependent variable and the controlled variables?

In an experiment, the independent variable is altered, and the effect observed is the dependent variable, or outcome. The controlled variable is intended to be kept the same throughout the experiment so that changes in it do not affect the results.

What is a controlable variable?

A variable which can be controlled by some other variables or some other parameters is known as controlled variable. A controlled variable is something that can be changed by the experimenter. It is also known as the independent variable. It is something that gives a measure by which to gauge everything else by. For example, if you were testing the effectiveness of a plant fertilizer the "control" would be a plant that is given no fertilizer at all. A controlled variable is the variable that stays the same through out the experiment meaning no changes to it.

What is controlled in a controlled study?

An investigation in science that is controlled is an experiment. The group within the experiment that is controlled is the control group. A control experiment is designed to check or correct the results of a previous experiment. It does this by removing the variable or variables operating in the other experiment. The comparison obtained is an indication or measurement of the effect of the variables concerned

A test of the effect of a single variable by changing it while keeping all other variables the same?

controlled experiment

What variable is unchanging?

In an experiment, your control variable will not be caused to vary by the experiment. Think of 'cause and effect'. The independent variable is the cause, the result is the effect, and the dependent variable is the one that you leave to be changed by the experiment.
