Well according to hewlitt packard technicians, they think their inkjets are a little bit better than matrix dot printers. I would have to agree with them.
In my opinion, a laser printer is better than an inkjet or ribbon (dot matrix?) printer.
Inkjets are: very cheap fast better resolutions than dot matrix printer need a cartridge
Laser printer use the same scheme of printing that was used in first photocopying machine, this scheme is called electrophotography and was introduced in 1938 and more developed in 1980. Laser printing prints using electrical charges to develop printed images on paper and the dot-matrix uses the scheme of printing dots to create images that is old printing technique. The quality of laser printing is for better than dot-matrix printing scheme. Another benefit of laser printer over dot-matrix printing is that its speed is faster than dot-matrix.
inkjet is faster, easier, and more afficient.
Inkjet printers are typically less expensive than laser printers. Inkjet printers are also able to print pictures with more realistic color and better blending. Inkjet printers also have the advantage of being able to handle a wide range of media types and thicknesses.
In my experience in using both types of printers, the dot matrix does make more noise as the print-head moves from side to side.
Laser printers are meant for offices, documents more than photos, and are generally faster than inkjet printers.
inkjet
Inkjet printers tend to be less expensive than laser printers even though the printing quality is not as high. Ink jet printers are becoming close in quality, however.
A printer is classified as an "output" device. Further basic classifications are: Impact and non-impact; inkjet, laser, thermal, and so on.
Inkjet printers are good for home use because they are smaller than laser printers and multipurpose laser copiers. They are also less expensive, and if they stop working, it is generally feasible to replace them. The ink cartridges are smaller than toner cartridges. Also, for simple photography, inkjet printers are more convenient. Color laser printers and even color offset copiers which use professional printers' ink are much more expensive when compared to color inkjet printers.
Inkjets normally work on less than 100 watts. Laser printers pull from 400 to 750 watts of power. I've found that laser printers impossible to use when running an ac inverter in my vehicle to power the printer.
