You look at it. One piece, the arms continue unbroken into the axle. 2/3-piece, the arm s will be separate parts that are somehow clamped onto the center part. Or do a picture search for " one-piece crank" and "3-piece crank" and compare with what you've got.

The cran is the part that together with the pedals go round when you pedal. For a 3-piece crank it consists of a right crank arm, left crank arm and the axle that goes between. There are some other bits as well, like bearinc cups ASO, but no point in letting reality get in the way of a good name. There are also ashtabula cranks where crank arms and axle are one solid piece.
It depends if you have a 3 piece crank, spokes, brakes.
Pop the cap out of the center of the crank arm and tighten with a 14mm socket. Replace cap when done.
