Usually when a guinea pig nibbles you they either are showing affection (sort of like a kiss) or they don't know what you are so they are tasting you. (if you have sweated you'll taste salty). Yes, it does hurt if their nibble is a bite kind of nibble. They will rarely ever bite you though.( Or that's what I've learned from my previous guinea pigs.)
P.S. If your guinea pigs seem to be fighting, don't put your hand in the cage to grab one out. They will bite you i you do this. Just find something to separate them with. (cardboard, wood, something hard, etc.) Other than that, guinea pigs are great pets.
