The trigger on a cannon breach shotgun works by releasing the hammer when the shooter is ready to fire. This strikes a firing pin when in turn ignites the gun power in the shell casing.

no there isn't. the double-barrel design was intended to provide a second charge to a breach loading gun without reloading. It was useful for hunting game-fowl; if you miss with the first shot, you can get a second shot off before the bird disappears into the brush. For any shotgun with a more sophisticated ammunition loading system, dual barrels would add nothing of value, and reduce the gun's accuracy (since the force from the shot is off-center, introducing a slight torque).
A French gunmaker by the name of LeFaucheux is usually given credit for this in the year 1851. His gun, though, was for a pinfire cartridge and not the centerfire cartridge we know today. A year or two later Charles Lancaster, a British gunmaker, had a centerfire breach-loader on the market.

A large number of James' guns were imported to the USA by several Armerican distrubutors including Lamberson, Furman & Co in 1887 and H&D Folsom in 1889....
There are two words with different spellings:breaches - plural of breach (an opening or gap) or the present tense of to breachbreeches - trousers (or specifically horse-riding pants); also rears/ loading areas of guns (likely this was originally a reference to the other breach)
