Yes and No. Tumours can show up X-rays simply as a mass which shouldn't be there. There is no way or not to tell if it is cancer from a standard X-ray. However if anything suspicous is seen, futher tests are normally ordered which will give the doctors more details. Lung Cancer is often found on a routine chest X-ray and appears as a "suspicous shadow" that warrants futher investigation.

If You mean for example chest x-ray - the answer is NO!

Breast cancer body mass differs very slightly from the normal body mass. So You have to use mammography, which gives You more chances to see those differences. Besides that, mammography radiologists are looking for microcalcifications. Those the early signs that something may be wrong. Microcalcifications are too small to image on standard X-ray.

Can you detect bone cancer in a bone density test?

A bone density test, also known as a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan, is primarily designed to assess bone mineral density and is not a direct method for detecting bone cancer. The DEXA scan is commonly used to diagnose osteoporosis and evaluate the risk of fractures by measuring bone density. Bone cancer is typically diagnosed through a combination of imaging studies, laboratory tests, and sometimes a biopsy. Common imaging techniques used to detect bone cancer include: X-rays: Traditional X-rays can reveal abnormalities in the bone structure that may be indicative of bone tumors. CT (Computed Tomography) Scan: CT scans provide detailed cross-sectional images of the bones, allowing for a more comprehensive evaluation. MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging): MRI can provide detailed images of soft tissues and is useful for assessing the extent of bone cancer. Bone Scans: Nuclear medicine bone scans involve injecting a radioactive substance into the bloodstream, which is taken up by bone tissue. Areas of increased uptake may indicate bone cancer. Biopsy: A biopsy involves taking a small sample of the suspicious tissue for examination under a microscope to determine if cancer cells are present. If there are concerns about bone cancer, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional. They will evaluate the symptoms, perform appropriate diagnostic tests, and, if necessary, refer the individual to a specialist for further assessment and management.

How do X rays detect bone cancer?

X-rays only show up dense areas in the body such as bone. An x-ray may show tumors in the lung as they show up as dense white patches and they can show bone erosion in people with bone tumours but they can't show up tumours which are the same density as the surrounding organs such as liver or kidney tumours. Similarly some cancers are carried in the blood or lymphatic system and these will also not be distinguishable on an x-ray. Other procedures can be used to outline these tumours, such as the use of x-ray dyes, CT scans or ultrasounds.

Will the mri scanner pick up traces of cancer cells in the lungs?

It will pick up abnormalities but only down to a certain size. It will pick up tumors but not just a few cells.
