Soda is acidic as it contains H2CO3 due to the dissolved CO2 within the soda.

Chalk on the other hand is a basically CaCO3 which is a base

CaCO3 + H2CO3 ---> CaCO3 + H20 + CO2

The reaction will continue until here is no more H2CO3 left i/e when the soda goes flat.

If this occurs before or the carbonate (CO3) is reduce to CO2 then there will be a solid left in the soda in the form of CaCO3
