∙ 14y agoI believe cigarettes could have a negative affect on anxiety levels because it cuts off oxygen in the lungs which naturally could have an effect on your nervous system. If you've ever noticed as I have as a smoker for 30 years, is that your first cigarette of the day gives you the shakes? I truly believe that cigarettes wreak havoc with the nervous system therefore anxiety levels could not be in balance and could only bring negative outcome as a whole. Hope this helps!

∙ 10y agoNicotine doesn't cause anxiety. The chemical itself doesn't but whatever is in the tobacco leaf might. Recent research shows that nicotine acts as a dopamine agnotist. This means that it helps the action of dopamine which is a "feel good" chemical.
