A conflict is a dispute, dlash, or disagreement, as in an argument, debate, or fight. The word conflict is also used to mean a war, or a battle. Many border disputes become armed conflicts and can develop into wars.
Another conflict can occur where people do not agree. A professor, for example, may be involved in a conflict with a school or college over his teaching methods, or a Basketball player may have a conflict with a coach or another player. This could range from a simple verbal dispute all the way up to a fistfight.
A less severe conflict is used for schedules and itineraries, where it means that one activity cannot occur because another is happening at or near that time. This is a "scheduling conflict."
