When trees are present they take up some of the water into their trunks and leaves and transpire it back into the atmosphere as water vapor, thus reducing runoff. When the trees are removed water that would other wise be transpired becomes runoff which flows into streams. The more runoff enters a stream, the greater the chances of a flood occurring.

Yes,

Soft engineering is when things have to adapt to flood risks, and allow natural processes to deal with rainwater,

Water is absorbed by trees and is infiltrated into the soil.

With increased deforestation the ground will become impermeable (water cannot be absorbed) causing surface run-off, meaning an increased chance of flooding, as the water has to go somewhere.

due to impearmable rock, water can't soak through, increasing surface run off, which means more water will travel down into the rivers etc.

What are the reasons for flooding during monsoon?

Flooding during the monsoon season can be caused by a combination of factors. Heavy rainfall over a short period of time can overwhelm drainage systems and lead to excessive runoff. Deforestation and urbanization decrease the land's ability to absorb water, increasing the likelihood of flooding. Additionally, topography plays a role, as areas with low-lying or flat terrain are more prone to flooding.

What will happen when deforestation or cutting trees occurs?

there will be more landslides as trees will not be there to hold land in place. flooding as trees won't be there to soak up the water, and more co2 because trees get rid of it.

Could air pollution result in flooding?

Air pollution can actually lead to flooding quite easily. Raindrops form in air particulates. The more particulates in the atmosphere, the more likely it is to rain heavily and perhaps cause flooding.
