What is a water horse?
You see, according to an old scottish legend, a monster lives in the loch,now this is apparantley called, the loch ness monster. Dick King-Smith wrote a novel about this creature, named 'The Water Horse', it has recently been made a movie, in which a lonely little boy Angus Mcmurrow, is searching for shells and things by the shore of the Loch, when he discovers what looks like a big egg-shaped rock. On closer investigation, he finds it is in fact an egg.it hatches and they become best friends but eventually he gets enormous so he has no choice but to put it in the loch.... when it gets put into the wild, does it turn wild? it is a great film and will have you crying and laughing, 10 out of 10!
Why did Henry VIII want a boy instead of girls?
Because in the British system of passing on the throne to a child, the oldest boy takes precidence over younger brothers and any sisters whatever age. It seems a bit sexist but that is how thing are. Also, in those days often the king was expected to lead his troops into battle and so a girl would have been thought of as unsuitable as a successor as in those days it was thought that women were 'weak' and unable to perform this function. Therefore Henry wanted a boy as he would beome king when Henry died whether or not he had younger brothers or sisters. As it happened Henry did have a son, Edward, who was heir to the throne, but who died before Henry, much to Henry's dismay. Henry also broke with Rome becoming a Protestant rather than a Catholic, and, if he did not have a son Mary would succeed him as queen - and she was a staunch Catholic unlike her younger sister Elizabeth, who was a protestant. An Henry wanted to avoid that at all costs. But it wasn't to be. History tells us that Mary came to the throne after Henry's death and began proceedings to return England to catholicism - but in a brutal and violent way, executing violently any who stood in the way. She truly earned the title 'Bloody Mary'. Thankfully, she died after a short while on the throne, leaving the throne to her sister Elizabeth, who was next in line. Elizabeth, as we all know, went on to reign with amazing competence, changing a country that was sick and still smarting from Mary's brutal reign, into a successful world power. Who says women are 'weak'?!!
