Best Answer

No. Drum brakes expand inside a rotating drum to stop the vehicle, disc brakes squeeze in against a rotating disc.

remove wheel. if disk brake, knock studs out with a hammer. insert new studs from rear side of disk. use a spacer and wheel nut to pull stud thru disk until seated. then remove wheel nut and spacer. replace wheel if drum brakes you need to remove the brake drum, then proceed same as for disk brakes

Will the Rear axle of a 1992 Lincoln Town Car fit a 1994 Lincoln Town Car?

Since the 1990-1994 models were completely identical I believe yes! the earend from a 1994 will work in a 1990, But u must make shore if u have drum brakes u get one with drum brakes, same if u have disk brakes. Unless u change the master brake cylender cause the valving is different. with drum brakes it has valving to keep ur drums pumped up for better peddle feel so with disk brakes they would stick with the drum brake car.

Why aren't hydraulic brakes used for rear wheels when the same is used for the front wheels?

All modern mass-produced cars and light trucks DO have hydraulic brakes on the front and the rear wheels. Heavy trucks generally have air brakes on all the wheels. Maybe you are thinking of cars that have disk brakes on the front and drum brakes on the rear? On cars, these are both hydraulically operated using the same hydraulic (brake) fluid. In normal stopping situations, the front brakes do more work than the rear brakes. Maybe 70 or 80% of the braking is done by the front wheels (it depends on where the weight is in the car and how fast you stop). Disk brakes are a somewhat better brake for a car, but drum brakes are a little cheaper to manufacture. So, disk brakes are almost always used on the front wheels where the braking is more important. Drum brakes are used on the back of some cars to save money. Note that performance cars (sports cars) almost always have disk brakes on all of the wheels.

What's the difference between a brake and disc brake service?

Disk brakes use a flat disk rotor while drum brakes use a wide cylinder that is open in the back. Both types of brakes cost about the same. The average cost to replace brake pads is between $90-$150 depending upon where you go.

Are disc's brakes the same as drum brakes?

No. Drum brakes are large and contain the mechanism within them. Disc brakes are slim and use calipers to slow them down. Although both are very similar, disc brakes are more advanced and a better option for your car.

Are disic brakes the same as hydrolic brakes?

No. Hydraulic brakes can be either drum or disc brakes, and these two brake types are available as air brakes and air-over-hydraulic systems, as well.

Why manufacturers use different types of brakes on the same car?

Disc brakes are more powerful, but it's easier to add a parking brake to a drum brake. So the front wheels often gets disc brakes, as they do most of the braking anyway, and the rears get drum brakes.

Hello I just bought a 68 camaro with 4 wheel drum brakes will it take value away from the car if you put 4 wheel drum brakes?

No, the value will not change at all. If you replace drum brakes with drum brakes as you said youwe're doing, it is the same as it is now, so no value change there unless you change something and replace it with something different, then you may have some value change.

How do you adjust parking brake on a 2002 Explorer?

the emergency brakes are drum type brakes inside the rear brake disk on each wheel.if you know how o adjust drum brakes it is the same adjustment for emergency brake on this vehicle. on the back of the drum there is a small rubber cap. remove this cap and with a flat screwdriver or adjuster tool, you turn the the serated wheel inside the brake drum to adjust the brake shoes out till nearly touching the brake drum it is best to do this with the rear wheels jacked up off the ground, so you can spin the wheel while adjusting. by spinning wheel you will feel when brake shoe is starting to slow wheel and you will then know to stop adjusting. do this on both wheels if you over adjust you will burn brakes out and have to replace brake shoes. this is a pain as you have to remove the disk brake caliper and rotoar to get at the emergency brake
