Additional Information: Weight gain was one of the side effects listed along with headaches, dry skin, thrush-an oral infection, and many others. A link has been found between the cravings for unusual substances and a deficiency of iron and/or zinc and anemia. You need to make an appt with your Dr. if you are experiencing any strong urges to eat peculiar substances and be open and honest with them about it. If you have a deficiency and are anemic you will need treatment for them, but don't stop there, ask your Dr. to explore the root causes. Colon cancer and some other cancers have been found to have a link with these symptoms. That doesn't mean that everyone who experiences these cravings has cancer, but I recommed that you see your Dr. and investigate the medical issues involved. This is a serious health consideration and shouldn't be ignored or hidden.
Raw corn, potatoes and many other foods contain quite a bit of starch. It won't hurt you, but there may be other ingredients that could. On the other hand, too much starch can absorb quite a bit of water which might be harmful. Just drink a lot of water if you like raw starch.
